General Theory of Consciousness

Consciousness is the only thing that becomes a thing from the moment you consider it. You can talk about it but it won’t be it. You can feel it but it won’t be it. You can experience it and it still won’t be it. To consider Consciousness is to approach it conceptually, emotionally and sensationally. It is the fabric of your reality at every single level but can only exist thanks to all those levels together for it is the inter-relatedness of each level to one another that composes it. It is not each level individually, or even as a group, it is the action of each level to one another.

Individuality

The reason why it is so hard to define consciousness is because our entire knowledge system and by consequence our conception of reality is based on state description. We learn by association of individual concepts together, by encoding reality into symbols which reduce this reality into a small piece of data. It allows us to simplify a phenomenon’s complexity and get around it much more easily. We encode meaning moment after moment in isolated ways without thinking of those moments one to another. As an illustration, the entire state of media today works that way. We take pictures, each individual picture is an individual moment which becomes an individual file which becomes an individual post which disappears behind the next post. We conceive the world as a sequence of individual moments or individual concepts, the same way you conceive yourself as an individual (that which cannot be divided). Scientifically, individuality is undefined. We cannot calculate the boundaries of what we perceive as individual. Where do you situate the boundary between earth and space? Where is the boundary between you and the world? Where is the boundary between atoms and the void? Those boundaries are abstracted because they are not calculable. Individuality can only be perceived. Literally, it is the fruit of your perspective.

Duality

All which you consider individual has various states of being. At any level, those states can all be mapped on a line with two poles and that which you consider individual moves in one direction or another. You can also find this duality in and around you as influences acting as poles defining the spectrum of your life.

The apparent complexity of any system comes from the entanglement of various bipolar scales which combined together create a wide range of possibilities. Those possibilities converge in a nexus that is called “boundary conditions”. The collision between those two poles create a third component.

Trinity

This third component defines the intersection between the infinite possibilities of existence and non-existence.

At this point, the trinity of forces can be apprehended sensationally, intellectually and emotionally because it exists at every levels. Depending on your own level right now you may want to name them differently but some of them could be: lower/even/higher, before/current/after, past/present/future, below/middle/above, active/neutral/passive, negative/zero/positive, inner/surface/outer, etc… As your consciousness grows you will learn that all those terminologies mean the same thing. The presence of the Rule of Three is widely referenced through various domains.

The Leap

We have seen how one becomes two and two becomes three. All things considered individual exist on a bipolar line of possibilities which itself changes through time. Each possibility redefines the value (or quality) of each pole. The three fundamental forces of the universe are entirely inter-dependent and constantly redefine each other. This is called a feedback loop. The action of a point becoming a line and a line becoming a plane happens when a specific threshold is passed. In physics, this threshold is called resonance.

In physics, resonance describes the phenomena of amplification that occurs when the frequency of a periodically applied force is in harmonic proportion to a natural frequency of the system on which it acts. When an oscillating force is applied at a resonant frequency of a dynamical system, the system will oscillate at a higher amplitude than when the same force is applied at other, non-resonant frequencies. [wiki]

The concept of resonance implies that the force in consideration oscillates cyclically between two poles. The interaction between the two forces in resonance creates a third force.

This conjunction of two opposite forces working against and for each other creates a third force of a remarkable quality, an individual system that is defined by those three forces but is of a superior quality. Meaning that it adopts a behavior that is more complex than each of its sources. The ever-changing quality of this system creates a new spectrum of possibilities for the entire system. It enters a new loop of a higher dimension which will observe the same Rules of Three.

The leap of quality that each dimension makes, expanding itself to a superior system of its own by resonance is the leap of Consciousness where 1+1 becomes 3. That’s the leap responsible for the expanding nature of the Universe. The same leap that manifests in you at every moment.

How do you apply this to your life?

The search for oneself and the development of Awareness is the same thing. To find yourself is to find your sense of individuality, of being remarkably one. As we have seen in the first paragraph, an individual on its own cannot be defined by itself. It needs to be defined in comparison to something else. Therefore, you must define yourself on the polar map of the universe. You stop growing and create bad feelings and bad thoughts when your awareness gets locked at a level without considering it as part of a whole, without seeing it as part of the trinity and realizing the necessity of its position on the map. When you stretch your awareness to consider the influences which define the object of your focus you complete your vision of the whole system and naturally make the leap toward a higher dimension of thinking, feeling and being. The number of levels toward which this leap can expand is infinite. But consciousness can only exist while growing. It stops to exist when it stops expanding, that’s what clinical depression is. To grow your consciousness is to constantly grow in two directions, inside and outside of you, your past and future self, your mind and your body.

Consciousness is not a state, it exists throughout states. Therefore it cannot be explained with one language, but throughout languages. It requires the complementary actions of multiple modalities together to be fully understood. What I am talking about here exists beyond language, beyond thought and beyond experience. In fact, it requires the functioning of all of those altogether not only to be comprehended but to be created.

In that effort, I will keep expanding my work on Consciousness (and AI) across various mediums in the hope that you can understand, feel and experience it.
